Things you should know about SEO

There are many things you should know before you create your web site or engage in a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) effort. Developing your site the wrong way or partnering with a bad SEO consultant can cost you dearly. Having a website is great (if not essential) for nearly every business today. But having a website means nothing if potential customers can't find you simply by searching for terms about your products or service.

  1. Flash can be a costly mistake - Use Sparingly!
    Many people love the appeal of Flash sites. They're cool, pretty and dynamic. While Flash is OK in limited usage, you need to know that search engines are blind to Flash. They simply can not read, follow or interpret it.

  2. JavaScript - Another Search Engine No-No
    Javascript is another technology that has a specific purpose and is great for that, but harms your SEO efforts. Search engines have a difficult time interpreting javascript or following links that use javascript. Unfortunately many of people use javascript to create fly out menus and navigation. This will only hurt your search engine placement and is totally unnecessary. Through CSS and XHTML there are better, modern ways to achieve the same dynamic effects without the use of javascript or Flash.
